Our law firm was founded in the early 1950s by former U.S. Senator William B. Spong, Jr. and former Lieutenant Governor of Virginia and Mayor of Portsmouth, Richard J. Davis. In 1963, Spong and Davis’ practice merged with that of Clyde W. Cooper’s, giving rise to Cooper, Spong & Davis, which is now one of Portsmouth’s oldest law firms.
The legacy of William B. Spong, Jr., who passed away in 1997, pervades our practice. His emphasis on duty and professionalism is reflected in our dedication and involvement in the Hampton Roads community and in our service to our clients. A number of our attorneys serve on state and local charitable, governmental, and corporate boards and commissions.
